Amazing Spider-Man #8 (Edge of Spider-Verse Tie-In) Review
Amazing Spider-Man #8 and the next tie-in to Edge of Spider-Verse are bundled together once again. What are my thoughts on the matter? Read my review and find out!
The comic picks up with Ms. Marvel having a fangasm as she gets to perform the slingshot maneuver and knock down the monster woman. It won’t keep her there for long, so they grab the cocoon and split, but it starts hatching. Meanwhile Cindy Moon is learning the hard way that rent in New York is a bitch, but she can’t stay with Peter since they keep acting like horny teenagers and then gets the Spider-Man treatment in the same way the Daily Bugle does him by the Fact News channel.
Anyway, the cocoon hatches into a baby and Ms. Marvel has to take it and run while Peter holds the Kree off. It goes poorly for both, with Ms. Marvel calling them monsters for shooting at her while she was carrying a baby. In all fairness, I think like half of the Marvel Universe would agree there and so does one of the henchmen, which is why he turns on the other two. They put together that Minerva is doing this without the Kree Empire’s permission and she runs off by him claiming to call them. Oh, and Silk does up her new outfit.
This part of the comic ends with Ms. Marvel getting complimented and then rushing back to school, while Peter gives the henchman a job at his company since he feels for him.
The next part has Spider-Girl from her own series running afoul of an inheritor known as Daemos, who intends to eat Peter, Mayday, and her baby brother. Peter, despite the bum leg, and MJ buy the kids some time to get away as more of the dimension traveling Spider-Men come to save them. Mayday wants them to help her parents, but they can only pick up the kids’ signals meaning that they’re dead. As the comic ends Mayday vows to kill the bastard and he states she’s more than welcome to try.
Okay, review time.
Not much to write about on the Amazing Spider-Man part. It was filler, at best. Padding and not relevant to the current story, so 3 out of 5 on that. The other part though, that was messed up. Mayday was a fan-favorite and Marvel just killed off her father and mother. The fan outrage is going to be a firestorm, but 5 out of 5 for such a short tale.
New Warriors #11 Review
The Children of the Celestials have arrived in the aftermath of the heroes victory. Will the New Warriors survive? Read my review and find out.
The comic opens with Justice being dragged off by thespeedster of the group and refusing to listen as he says they’re trying to save the world. Meanwhile the others are just standing around as Scarlet Spider gets his ass beat like a drum. High Evolutionary tells them to kill him and be done with it, but Speedball runs interference and gets knocked around so hard he starts thinking their deaths are for the better.
Of course, once that moment passes they start doing better than they really have any right to. And then they get right back to where they were before until Nova pulls a win out of his ass. Then he gets beaten down and the team gets strung up to the murder machine before Hummingbird, who went into Zuras’ mind, claims he’s lying while Water Snake ganks the High Evolutionary before getting laser-beamed. As the comic ends Speedball thinks he wants to kill the man but can’t and there’s no hope, but Justice has dug himself out of his snowy grave.
Okay review time.
So mostly this was a curb-stomp issue. Not that much of a surprise really, other than learning that this whole thing was likely a ploy on Zuras behalf and how cynical Speedball really was. No wonder Hummingbird liked him. 4 out of 5.
All-New X-Factor #15 (AXIS Tie-In) Review
Okay, AXIS is in full swing and right now we’re getting a tie-in in the form of All-New X-Factor #15. Who will fall to the hate-plague running rampant around world on our corporate team? Read on and find out!
The story opens with the president getting ready to start a nuclear war with Russia and abandons his family at the White house, where they would likely return fire. See what happens when you don’t vote in Marvel Universe? Anyway the soldier carrying the nuclear football trips and when they’re in the air they discover the briefcase holding it only contains magazines. So while that poor bastard is getting the Guantanamo treatment we skip back to the scene and see that Quicksilver stole it and left the poor bastard to suffer.
The Serval team is working overtime to try and stop Washington from burning. Unfortunately an implant that Warlock gave Gambit burns out and he has to go replace it while Georgia, Luna, and Cypher deal with a riot when the police try to kill Luna, upon which Quicksilver saves her and knocks them out. Oh, and Georgia wants the uniform.
Back with Gambit, he tries to kill Lorna, who states she doesn’t mind if he goes after her brother and sister, but she draws the line when it comes to her. He… really kinda does her up. If it weren’t for Warlock she would have died, but he gets the implant back in to stop the hatred and Gambit apologizes.
Back at the base they are spared from the hate wave by the barrier, but since the nuclear football has a GPS they get found out. The president sends Sentinels to deal with them as the comic ends. Figures.
Okay, review time.
I’m not really sure how much value this has because it drew away from the last issue with Wanda outing Quicksilver as a mole. But Marvel just can’t seem to help but do tie-ins, so it’s a moot point anyway . 3 out of 5.
